The "13 Moons" pendant is a symbol of the Mohegan Tribe. The four domes represent the four directions that guide the traveller. The domes are also shaped like turtle shells, or wigwams. The turtle, along with the wolf, are very important symbols of the Mohegan people. The cirlce in the center represents Mundu, "The Creator", and also represents the circle of life. There are usually 13 dots around the center circle which represent the 13 moons, and 13 months in the Mohegan calender. There are many different depictions of this symbol. |
